King Charles ‘benefitting’ from Prince Harry peace summit speculation

King Charles ‘played a blinder’ with Harry and Meghan says Cole

The alleged peace talks between Prince Harry and King Charles is “another story point in the soap opera” for the Firm, according to a PR boss.

It had been reported that Harry was due to meet with his father next month as he travels back from the Invictus Games in Germany via London, although his wife Meghan Markle was not expected to join him to meet the King.

However sources later rubbished the claims, emphasising the fact that Prince William was not ready to speak to his brother after he was angered by allegations Harry made in his book Spare.

PR expert and founder of The Moment Lab Matt Yanofsky told The Mirror of the debacle: “Only the men in that room know what will happen, but from a public relations standpoint, the Royal Family depends on storylines to stay in the news, especially when the public’s approval of the royals is in decline.

“This is another story point in the soap opera, which is great for the entire family (and the viewers at home).”

If the pair do manage to meet in September, it will be the first time they have spoken face-to-face since Spare was published in January, with Harry using his autobiography to criticise his father’s parenting style, accuse his stepmother Queen Camilla of being a “villain” and claim William physically attacked him.

The Duke of Sussex did attend the King and Queen’s Coronation in May, however it was a very brief trip as he flew back to California after the ceremony without speaking to his immediate family.

A source told OK! magazine of the proposed meeting: “King Charles is due to return to London from Balmoral in the middle of September which ties with the end of Harry’s Invictus Games trip to Düsseldorf.

“The King has a rescheduled official visit to France on September 20 so has a few days to spare in London to meet with his son. Staff are trying to fine-tune the details as we speak.”

While Charles is said to be keen to reconcile with his family in the US, he has been hurt by Harry’s actions and wishes for their conversations to remain private.

The source added: “The King loves his son very much but he has been mortally wounded by what he has done. He will always be there for him but draws the line at public slanging matches.

“If the talks take place, the King will make it very clear that there will be absolutely no private family business discussed in public moving forward.”

Other sources have dismissed these claims of any talks taking place, with a friend of William saying there was “no chance” there would be any peace summit.

Speaking to the Daily Beast, the friend added: “He [William] feels utterly betrayed by what Harry wrote about him in the book and said about him on Netflix.

“They were very close growing up so it has been very painful for William. But ultimately what can he do? Just look at Spare. It’s literally William’s worst nightmare.”
