Lorry bursts into flames after crash while driver 'was high on cannabis'

A lorry driver who ‘took cannabis before getting behind the wheel’ was arrested after a crash with another HGV at the weekend.

The driver was ‘lucky to be alive’ when his vehicle burst into flames after the collision on the M1 near Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire on Sunday.

He tested positive for the drug and was arrested, Thames Valley Police said.

Parts of the M1 were closed following the incident.

Thames Valley Police Roads Policing tweeted a picture of the scene, adding: ‘The results of driving after using cannabis on M1. One driver very lucky to be alive.

‘Arrested after positive drug wipe. Quick way to lose your job, licence & possibly life.’

Highways England tweeted: ‘Two HGV’s have had a collision with one left stranded on fire.

‘The fire is out and we are working to get traffic running past scene as soon as possible.’
