The closure, put in place at around 6.35 this morning, is in place between Junction 10 and Junction 11. National Highways have confirmed that the closure is in place “due to an off network” police incident. There are traffic queues in the area and drivers should expect delays.

Traffic monitoring website, INRIX, said: “M65 in both directions closed, stationary traffic due to police incident from J10 A671 Cavalry Way (Burnley / Padiham) to J11 B6434 Princess Way (Burnley Centre).

“Congestion to J9 (Hapton / Burnley West) heading Eastbound.

“Closure has since been put in place after traffic was held before the junction around 06:35.”

Traffic has been held for almost an hour.

On the eastbound carriageway there is congestion leading up to J9, while the westbound carriageway is facing delays as a result of congestion leading up to Junction 12.

National Highways: North-West encouraged road users to allow extra time for travel.

It tweeted: “The #M65 has been closed within J10 #Burnley in both directions due to an off network @LancsRoadPolice incident.

“Please allow extra time if you’re travelling in the area.”
