Major travel delays at Gatwick Airport after train lines blocked

Major travel delays have hit Gatwick Airport rail links with travellers advised to avoid going to and from the popular transport hub.

An incident earlier today between Three Bridges and Horley, in Surrey, has brought the network to a standstill as investigations are underway. 

Both Southern Rail and Thameslink reported being affected by severe delays after a person died on the railway, Sussex Live reports.

In a tweet posted shortly after 11.45am, Southern Rail said: “It is with great sadness that we report a person has been hit by a train between Three Bridges and Horley.

“All lines are blocked between these stations whilst the emergency services work to deal with this incident. Service information will follow.”

No further details have been released on the incident however it is likely trains running between Horley and Three Bridges will be delayed for some time. Passengers have been advised to allow more time to complete their journeys.

A spokesperson from Govia Thameslink Railway said: “We regret to advise that due to a person being hit by a train, some lines are currently closed at Gatwick Airport.

“We are working to get as many services moving as possible, but disruption is expected until later this afternoon. Please delay travelling in this area if you can.

“Ticket acceptance is in place via alternative routes and operators, please see our websites for more information.”
