Man in his 20s killed in jet ski accident watched by holidaymakers on beach

A 26-year-old man has been killed in a tragic jet ski accident off the coast of Sussex. The incident, which occurred on Monday evening at around 6pm, happened just as the bank holiday was drawing to a close. 

Emergency services were scrambled to Worthing Beach, near Goring-by-Sea, on Monday evening. A 26-year-old man was believed to have been involved in an accident involving a jet ski. 

witnesses of the accident reportedly said that they saw a boat overturn in the incident. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man died shortly afterwards.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Emergency services responded to a report of a medical incident in the sea at Worthing Beach, shortly before 6pm on Monday, May 29.

“A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital where he was later declared to have deceased. His next of kin have been informed.”

The coastguard, who responded along with the air ambulance, said the man died after he became “separated from his jetski”.

A spokesperson for the coastguard said: “HM Coastguard, Sussex Police, South East Ambulance Service and an air ambulance responded to reports of a man separated from his jet ski off Goring-by-Sea yesterday, 29 May.

“At around 6pm a Coastguard Rescue Team from Littlehampton and a lifeboat from Littlehampton RNLI were sent to the scene.”

The death of the 26-year-old man comes after five other deaths over the bank holiday weekend as the nation enjoyed blue skies and high temperatures.
