Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have come under renewed scrutiny after it was claimed they shot parts of their Netflix docu-series in someone else’s Mantecito Mansion. What initially appeared to be their luxurious $14.65million luxurious mansion in California turns out to be a splendid property worth a staggering £27.3million ($33million), it has been claimed. The 13,599 square feet, six-bedroom Montecito estate mansion, which is a nine minute drive away from the Sussexes’ own home, was reportedly featured in some parts of the Netflix docu-series.
Royal fans may have assumed the sweeping vistas over the Pacific Ocean, an oak ceiling and an impeccably designed interior were the views the Sussexes get to see every day.
But the luxurious property featured in parts of their documentary turns out to be a mansion worth triple their own actual home, it has been claimed.
According to the estate’s agent description of the property shared by the Mail on Sunday, the mansion boasts a Wimbledon-quality lawn, pool, spa, private gym and pebbled walkways.
Eagle-eyed viewers may have noted key differences between the couple’s Santa Barbara County home and the mansion shown in the documentary.
While the Sussexes’ mansion has 19 bathrooms, the luxurious property located at 888 Lilac Drive boasts only six.
Prince and Harry seemingly opened up their Montecito home to viewers for the first time in their Netflix docu-series ‘Harry & Meghan’ by giving viewers an unprecedented look inside the $14.65million dollar California mansion they purchased in the summer of 2020.
According to Page Six, the property also boasts a tea house and a children’s cottage, and aerial photographs show what seems to be large playground equipment.
The house in the show shows the mansion’s great room flooded with light from the double-height arched windows that line the back of the house. Royal-obsessed fans, however, may have spotted the living room is not the one featured in Meghan’s surprise appearance on America’s Got Talent, which shows a beige couch and a yellow wall in the backdrop.
Images of the 888 Lilac Drive mansion’s living room – independently verified – shows a striking resemblance with the room featured in Harry and Meghan’s Netflix show with the same white couch and the same French doors in the backdrop. The same mantlepiece can also be seen in the background.
In an interview with The Cut, writer Allison P. Davis describes the Duke and Duchess’s house as “the kind of big that startles you into remembering that unimaginable wealth is actually someone’s daily reality. It evokes a classic Tuscan villa, a Napa vineyard, and a manicured Beverly Hills country club decorated with careful, considered coastal tones for a casual air—the home equivalent of billionaires dressing down in denim.”
In the same story, Meghan revealed she and Harry immediately fell in love with the home: “One of the first things my husband saw when we walked around the house was those two palm trees.
“See how they’re connected at the bottom? He goes, ‘My love, it’s us.’ And now every day when Archie goes by us, he says, ‘Hi, Momma. Hi, Papa.'” S
“You walk in and go… Joy. And exhale. And calm. It’s healing. You feel free.”

Meghan and Harry’s property boasts a swimming pool, a tennis court, and a huge garden – its surrounding area is 7.4 acres in total and has spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.
Other highlights include a private gym, a spa, a win cellar, and a separate guesthouse where Meghan’s mum, Doria, stays when she visits the couple and their children.
While the Sussexes have never claimed the house in the series is their own, some viewers might have been led to believe they were offered an unprecedented look into the couple’s luxurious property.
Representatives for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were contacted for comment.
