Meghan and Harry warning: Expert explains why private security can’t protect the royals

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s future security has become a hot topic among royal fans. Following Meghan and Harry’s decision to step down as senior royals, the question of who will pay for their security has been hotly debated. Some fans have argued as the couple will no longer be performing royal duties, the public should not pay for their protection.

However, Richard Aitch the director of operations for Mobius international told that considering private security could prove disastrous.

The security expert insisted collaborations with the Metropolitan Police, MI5 and other intelligence agencies ensured the Royal Family was kept safe – something private security would struggle to do with a reduction in resources.

Mr Aitch said: “It is a holistic approach to security.

“There is no one part of security the Royal and Specialist Protection Department have a tendency to observe more than any other.

“The Metropolitan Police has access to a whole host of supporting agencies.

“The diverse flow of intelligence that they gain from these agencies where they can form and create the best security plan for protecting members of the Royal Family.”

The security expert then explained the Metropolitan Police may work with Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and MI5 for threats currently impacting the country.

He added this would extend to persons of interest when preparing security for the Royal Family at an event.

Mr Aitch continued: “So all of this intelligence coming in will allow the uniformed police on the ground to cater for this.

“They will be able to provide a better protection operation as a result of this intelligence coming in.

“Now when you compare that to the private sector, this intelligence isn’t going to be present whatsoever.

“That is another reason why I would be very surprised if Meghan and Harry did entertain a private sector security provision.”

Speculation on the future path the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will embark on has been rife since the news broke they would be stepping back from their duties.

Some experts have suggested Harry and Meghan will be working with celebrity friends in the future.

But feminist author Germaine Greer warned the couple to beware of the “showbiz” life as she suggested the Duke and Duchess’ wedding ceremony hinted at the path they will take.

Speaking to 60 Minutes Australia, Ms Greer said: “The marriage was terrible too because it was full of showbiz personalities as if Meghan lived in a completely artificial world.

“You had a distinct feeling the guests didn’t know who the bride and groom were. It was showbiz, wasn’t it?

“And the whole point of showbiz is that it’s not real. It won’t sustain you.”
