Royal author Katie Nicholl said the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge “still love” the Sussexes but “feel let down”. Meghan and Harry made a series of bombshell claims about the Royal Family in their controversial TV interview.

Ms Nicholl told OK! magazine: “Kate and William both feel they were hugely welcoming to Meghan and Harry.

“Any accusations against the monarchy are accusations against their family.

“It’s hurtful and they feel let down.

“Obviously, they still love Harry and Meghan, but this interview has ruffled feathers.”

Ms Nicholl said Kate has been left “disappointed and hurt” in the wake of the tell-all interview.

But she put the royal drama behind her last week as she and William attended their first engagement since the programme aired.

Claims of tears over a bridesmaid dress fitting ahead of the Sussexes’ royal wedding resurfaced when Meghan told Winfrey Kate made her cry – not the other way around.

Ms Nicholl said Kate found it “mortifying” that the row had reemerged after it was first reported in November 2018.

The royal author added that there are “different versions” of the story and Meghan and Harry know Kate is “not in a position to respond”.

Ms Nicholl said: “This has been a very hard few days for Kate, but she turned up and committed to her work and duty last week.

“People did notice that she appeared downcast and subdued.

“Behind closed doors she has been saddened, disappointed and hurt.

“From what I hear, there are different versions of the bridesmaid story, not just the one Meghan discussed.

“Kate felt it was all sorted, so to have it brought up again was mortifying.

“Kate is not in a position to respond and Meghan and Harry know that.”

William angrily defended the royals as he and Kate visited a school in east London last Thursday.

Meghan and Harry made a set of incendiary claims about the monarchy during their interview, including accusations of racism.

A reporter called out to William: “Is the Royal Family a racist family, sir?”

The duke hit back: “We’re very much not a racist family.”
