During the Royally Obsessed podcast Rachel Bowie and Roberta Fiorito discussed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s “selective strategy” regarding who they choose to speak to. The royal experts comments follow Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sitting down for an exclusive Zoom interview with the Evening Standard in honour of the UK’s Black History Month.
Ms Fiorito said: “I am really fascinated by their selective strategy with choosing the publications they talk to.
“This was definitely very calculated in who they worked with.”
Ms Bowie replied: “They even called that out at one point saying that the Evening Standard has a very diverse readership and a diverse newsroom.
“I hope that they start granting these interviews to newspapers more often because it was so fascinating to see them off script and to hear them be asked questions they don’t know are coming.
“To see them put on the spot was very enlightening.
“I would love to see more of that.”
Ms Fiorito added: “Me too, I really liked this.”
The Evening Standard chat was the couple’s first interview with a UK publication since moving to Los Angeles earlier in the year.
They officially stepped down from their roles as senior working royals at the end of March this year.
Upon stepping down, the Sussexes blacklisted certain British tabloids, warning there would be a policy of “zero engagement”.
The royal commentators also discussed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s update regarding their son Archie.

Ms Bowie told listeners: “They mentioned Archie upfront in the very first few snippets.
“Meghan said: ‘we are doing well, Archie’s so good, we’re very lucky with our little one’.
“‘He is just so busy, he’s all over the place, he keeps us on our toes, we are just so lucky.’
“That honestly sounds so sweet, it’s lovely to get an update about it.”
