The Duchess alluded to her support for the Democrat in an interview with Gloria Steinem. Meghan has been more outspoken about voting and politics since stepping away from the Royal Family with Prince Harry this year.

Meghan revealed the election’s “representation” of people of colour in politics “excited” her, in a thinly veiled allusion to Mrs Harris.

She said in a chat with Ms Steinem: “I’m so excited to see that kind of representation.

“You know, for me, being biracial, growing up, whether it was a doll or a person in office, you need to see someone who looks like you in some capacity.

“As many of us believe, you can only be what you can see. And in the absence of that, how can you aspire to something greater than what you see in your own world?

“I think maybe now we’re starting to break through in a different way.

Mrs Harris is also a huge fan of the former Sussex royal, and has been vocal in her support of Meghan.

The US senator, who recently secured nomination as Joe Biden’s running mate, has often shared videos of Meghan.

She called a clip of the Duchess’ address to her former high school about Black Lives Matter “powerful” on Twitter.

Mrs Harris also threw her support behind the Duchess when she revealed in an ITV interview she struggled with being a royal in the public eye.

She said on Twitter at the time: “Meghan, we are with you.”

The pair also appeared on the virtual event The 19th Represents, a digital summit about women voting.

While they did not appear together, they were both featured speakers at the event and both advocated for increased voter turnout from women and people of colour.

Meghan said before the event: “The 19th’s commitment to reporting and storytelling that lifts up those who are too often underrepresented in the media has never been more important.

“I’m looking forward to asking the co-founder what it means to build a media outlet with gender equity, diversity, and community at its core.”

Royal experts have suggested Meghan is eyeing a role in US politics in the future.

Lady Colin Campbell said to the Daily Mail: “I know the Duchess of Sussex has political ambitions and I’ve been told that one day she wants to run for President.

“I think everything she is doing, leaving the Royal Family and moving back to California is part of her plan and she has taken Harry along with her.”

Beverly Turner shared Lady Campbell’s thoughts and added: “She will run for President, I have no doubt about it.

“I have no doubt, I think this is all part of the plan. It may not be very soon but it will be.”

Royal Family members typically stay out of politics and would be unlikely to cast a vote, though they do sometimes make statements support issues like universal suffrage or democracies.

Harry will likely “avoid party politics” unlike Meghan however, according to Richard Fitzwilliams

He said: “Harry is on a journey which is very ‘woke.’

“Apart from Invictus and mental health, he will champion other charitable causes but will avoid party politics.”
