Meghan Markle fans go wild as first acting role from 28 years ago resurfaces

Meghan Markle’s Suits character lays law on new employee

Meghan Markle rose to stardom in the hit US legal drama Suits before marrying into the Royal Family, and now her legion of fans have been left delighted after her first-ever acting role resurfaced.

The Duchess of Sussex starred as Rachel Zane in Suits for more than 100 episodes before she married Prince Harry in May 2018.

However, before landing her first major acting role, Meghan also starred alongside some of America’s most popular sitcom stars.

Her first uncredited acting role was on the hit show Married… with Children, which ran for a decade until 1997 and is still one of the longest-running sitcoms in American television history.

Pictures from her appearance on the programme in 1995, which aired on Fox, have resurfaced and show Meghan as a teenager during season nine.

She appears as a student in an episode called The Undergraduate and saw her star in a scene alongside Primetime Emmy Award winner Christina Applegate and actor David Faustino.

Meghan’s appearance on Married… with Children came thanks to her now-estranged father Thomas Markle Snr who at the time was working as a lighting director and director of photography on the hit sitcom.

Now several of her delighted fans have taken to social media after unearthing the Duchess of Sussex’s first acting appearance.

One person wrote on Twitter “Aww so adorable,” while another gushed: “Omg that face.”

A third Twitter user also reminisced: “When you actually remember that episode,” while adding a crying laughing emoji.

Meghan spoke about her time on Married… with Children during an interview with Esquire in February 2018.

She told the publication: “My dad was a lighting director and director of photography for Married… with Children. He just retired actually last year.

“Every day after school for 10 years, I was on the set of Married… with Children, which is a really funny and perverse place for a little girl in a Catholic school uniform to grow up.

“There were a lot of times my dad would say, ‘Meg, why don’t you go and help with the craft services room over there? This is just a little off-colour for your 11-year-old eyes.'”

The former actress added: “I wasn’t allowed to watch it at home. I could watch the end credits so I could give the screen a kiss when I saw my dad’s name go by.

“You gotta think, there were guest stars like Tia Carrere and Traci Lords and Nikki Cox. Those were the kind of women coming in every day.

“Just picture me with my curly hair and a gap in my teeth and my little school uniform with Keds on, looking up like, “Hi,” at these very, uh, provocative women. It was a big change from Immaculate Heart Catholic School.”

Ed O’Neill, who starred as Al Bundy on Married… with Children, has also previously spoken about Meghan’s time on the show.

He said during an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres show in 2019: “She grew up on the set of Married With Children. Did you know that?

“Her father was a camera operator. And she used to come on the set in her little Catholic school uniform. She was, like, nine.”
