Meghan will speak at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit Virtual event today in front of audience members who have paid £10,000 ($13,000) per ticket. The conference’s website listed the speakers involved, including executive vice president at Paypal Peggy Alford and Christine Amanpour, chief international anchor at CNN. Meghan is listed on the website simply as The Duchess of Sussex.

People on social media were quick to call out Meghan for using her title as her profession.

One user wrote: “She is using her title which only indicates that without it no one would entertain her.”

Another Twitter user replied: “Very much so and it shows as all the other speakers have their credentials underneath, she just has Duchess of Sussex.”

A third added: “So her name is Meghan and her profession is The Duchess of Sussex?”

They then added a laughing face emoji.

Meghan and Harry were forced to drop the Sussex Royal branding they had been using on their Instagram page after they announced their intention to build their own independent life outside of the Royal Family at the start of the year.

Shortly after settling into US life, they announced they intend to launch a new charity venture called the Archewell Foundation.

The couple explained the name of the foundation incorporate the Greek word in the project Arche, which means source of action.

The name is also inspired by their son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.

Meghan and Harry said: “Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global Covid-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be.

“Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of Arche – the Greek word meaning source of action.

“We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son’s name. To do something of meaning, to do something that matters.

“Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.

“We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right.”

At today’s event, the former actress will speak to journalist Ellen McGirt, who is senior editor at Fortune magazine.

This will involve exploring “what it will take to create humane tech”.

This is part of the three day summit aimed at exploring women’s role in business in the digital world.

A synopsis on the summit’s website said: “Our experiences online shape our communities offline.

“How do we build—and rebuild—our digital world? What’s the true price we pay if we don’t?”

Meghan’s biography Finding Freedom author Omid Scobie tweeted: “Duchess Meghan will speak at tomorrow’s Fortune summit about how experiences online shape communities offline.

“She will join the summit for a virtual one-one-one on rebuilding the digital world and creating humane tech (a big part of Archewell).”
