The Sussexes have recently come under fire over announcements urging people to vote in the US election and for speaking out on other causes. Last week, they launched a website for their charitable organisation Archewell, which currently features a mailing list for “activities and initiatives”. While many have criticised their decision to comment on politics – a move historically avoided by the Royal Family – some have leaped to their defence. Historian Jenny Hocking argued that it was a “wonderful” thing because voting is a “civic duty” and not a partisan issue. She compared the departing royals’ move to the work of Prince Charles and she described it as “above politics”. But Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan was less than impressed by their efforts.
The TV star blasted Meghan and Harry over their demand for privacy while also promoting causes and deliberately remaining in the spotlight.
In his new book, Piers Morgan: Wake Up, the former newspaper editor revealed his “endless irritation” over apparently disregarding their previous demand for a “quieter, more private life”.
He vented: “They keep hurling themselves into the news cycle as if they’re desperate to wrestle our attention back from a mere pandemic.”
The ITV host’s fury emerged on April 6 after they announced plans to launch Archewell.
Their website currently breaks down the name into the Greek word ‘Arche’ for “source of action” and ‘Well’ meaning “a plentiful source or supply; a place we go to dig deep”.
While they are yet to reveal their intentions for the organisation, the description suggests it will be focused on humanitarian and other world issues.
In a statement they previously stated that the definition of Arche served as inspiration for the name of their son Archie Harrison and also for action against injustice.
The Sussexes explained that they aim “to do something of meaning, to do something that matters”.

They wrote: “Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action, and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon.”
Piers described their plan as “grotesquely tone-deaf” and inappropriate after the Queen previously addressed the nation to talk about the coronavirus pandemic.
He wrote: “I imagine the total number of f***s the British public currently gives about these two self-regarding brats.
“Announcing their ‘plans’ as they do nothing that matters in a Hollywood mansion, could be written on the back of a postage stamp.”
Piers Morgan’s Wake Up Why the World has Gone Nuts was published by HarperCollins this month and is available here.
