The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be stronger than ever, since leaving their royal roles last year. According to author and journalist Omid Scobie, the couple are “thriving” since stepping back from the Royal Family and making the move to the US. Mr Scobie co-wrote the new unauthorised biography Finding Freedom on the couple, which was released in August.

Speaking on Lorraine, he said: “I think there’s been a lot of talk about how the door is open for a return to the fold should they want, and I think that’s a great sign of how close Harry is with Her Majesty.

“But I think the couple are very forward focused at the moment.

“They have been able to already start establishing their charitable brand moving forward.”

The decision to step down came after months of speculation the Duchess could not settle into royal life.

In a documentary filmed throughout her 10-day tour of Africa with Harry in October, Meghan herself admitted that the media scrutiny “on top of trying to be a new mum or trying to be a newlywed” was really challenging.

However, the former Suits star had a try at royal life, unofficially, before she met Harry an old video unearthed by the Mirror from the Nineties shows.

In the video Meghan can be seen dressing up as the Queen for a childhood play session.

The footage shows her having fun at her former best friend Ninaki Priddy’s birthday party, wearing a gold crown.

Meghan takes on the role of the Queen.

One friend asks her: “Your Highness, your Highness, isn’t there anything to do around this kingdom any more?”

Meghan says: “Yes, make 900,000 cookies… and sew me a nice dress.”

Another child asks: “Can I go take a walk, your Highness?”

Meghan puts on a grand voice and replies “yes, you may”, before shouting “ten minute break!”

But she then adds: “Ten minute break is up.

“Faster sewing! Faster cooking!”

A friend called Diana tells Meghan: “Your Highness, Your Highness, great party!”

Meghan responds: “Oh, I’m so glad you are enjoying it.”

The Duchess of Sussex is said to have cut Ms Priddy out of her life, with whom she had been inseparable since the age of two.

Their extraordinary bond spanned 31 years of sleepovers, a holiday in Europe as 15-year-olds — including a picture opportunity outside Buckingham Palace — and road trips across the US.

However, their friendship appeared to come to an abrupt end after the Duchess divorced her previous husband, Trevor Engelson, in 2013.
