Royal author Andrew Morton compared the Duchess of Sussex’s sit down chat with Oprah Winfrey to Diana’s bombshell Panorama interview. But he insisted former actress Meghan would not make the “mistake” Diana made in 1997.

Writing in The Sun, Mr Morton said: “The mistake Diana made was to give Prince Charles a good kicking by suggesting he should never be King and offending the Queen when she said that she should be a ‘queen of people’s hearts’.

“After that, the royal shutters came down.

“Meghan is way too smart to do anything other than smile coyly and express her admiration for Her Majesty.

“And thank Catherine Middleton for all her advice and support.

“The men in grey at Buckingham Palace may get a thumping but for the most part she will be magnanimous in victory.”

Meghan’s interview with Oprah airs on US television network CBS next month.

The ex-actress, 39, will be joined by Prince Harry for part of the chat, which comes after Megxit was confirmed on Friday.

Meghan will open up on life as a royal, marriage, motherhood and public pressure.

The former Suits star and Harry, who are expecting their second child, will also discuss their move to America and future plans.

Oprah With Meghan And Harry: A CBS Primetime Special has been described as an “intimate conversation” by the US television network.

CBS said in a statement: “Winfrey will speak with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, in a wide-ranging interview, covering everything from stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure.

“Later, the two are joined by Prince Harry as they speak about their move to the United States and their future hopes and dreams for their expanding family.”

Oprah had reportedly met Meghan just once before she was invited to her and Harry’s royal wedding in 2018.

The televised interview comes as Megxit was confirmed by the Royal Family on Friday.

Meghan and Harry quit royal duties in March 2020 and they will not be returning.

They have been stripped of their royal patronages, while Harry has also been forced to give up his beloved honorary military titles.

The couple, who are living in a mansion in California with their young son Archie, have signed lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify as they launch new careers outside of the monarchy.

Royal author Angela Levin insisted the Queen is “very concerned” over Meghan and Harry’s Oprah interview. She said: “When senior members of the Royal family say too much or say things that she thinks are wrong the whole family is affected by it.

“I think she is very concerned about what the interview with Oprah Winfrey will reveal.

“There’s been a lot of publicity saying that it’s going to be a tell-all, no-questions-barred, and I think she’s concerned about how that would be, and she’s got to protect the Royal Family.”
