Meghan Markle’s Coronation snub backed by Gayle King

Gayle King reveals how she spoke to Harry and Meghan in 2021

Meghan Markle made the “best” decision in snubbing King Charles III’s Coronation next month, as her ally Gayle King – the broadcaster and TV legend – described the Duchess of Sussex’s current mood.

For weeks it was unknown what Meghan and her husband Prince Harry intended to do with regards to their Coronation plans, with the Sussex household missing the invitation deadline.

But it emerged that Harry was set to attend the celebrations on his own while Meghan remained in the US with their two young children – including Archie Harrison who marks his fourth birthday on the day of the Coronation itself.

The decision has not been made without controversy, with many believing the historic nature of the event meant the 41-year-old should have made the effort to travel with Harry to make the occasion.

For Gayle, though, the move to stay away was the best one for the Duchess of Sussex.

Speaking to US Weekly, the chatshow host said: “I think they make the decision that’s best for them. But I think — as [far as] his dad [Charles] — I’m glad he’s going.”

When quizzed about the couple’s latest public appearance, when Meghan appeared to shun Harry when approached for a kiss at an LA Lakers game, she continued: “You’ve seen the two of them together and I know what they have is really true-blue. And it’s good to see the happiness that they give each other.”

At the Time100 gala, Gayle added: “Clearly they know what’s going on in their family life. They know what’s going on over there.”

Her comments came after Meghan reportedly signed a huge deal with a US talent agency that is set to represent the star.

Among the clients working with William Morris Endeavor (WME) include Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, LeBron James and Serena Williams.

Analysis dictates that as a result of the deal, Meghan could be set to fork in tens of millions of dollars, and presents the prospect of her making a major public comeback.

Meghan and Harry have remained in the public eye, despite their 2020 wish to leave the Royal Family in order to live a more private life, thanks to a series of deals with content providers.

Deals signed included creating a six-part Netflix documentary titled Harry & Meghan, as well as exclusive podcasts made for Spotify.

In January, Harry too got in on the act, releasing his bombshell memoir Spare – which quickly became the fastest-selling non-fiction book in history.

Gayle has enjoyed a longstanding friendship with Harry and Meghan, and has made them the subject of a number of special news reports over in the US.

She has also defended the couple, including after their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, which saw the Sussexes lay bare their thoughts on why they decided to quit their royal duties.

The host added: “It’s their first major broadcast since giving up their senior royal duties …and I’ve heard from reliable sources – this is Oprah talking – that it’s the best interview she’s ever done.”
