The Duchess of Sussex is set to publish a children’s book in June about father-son relationships through the perspective of mothers. Meghan’s book is titled ‘The Bench’ and is said to be inspired by the bond between her husband Prince Harry and their baby son Archie.

The announcement of the Duchess’ book raised some eyebrows over its storyline.

It comes after the Sussexes sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell-all interview in which Harry highlighted his fragile relationship with his father, Prince Charles.

The Duke of Sussex told the US chat show host that he felt “really let down” by his father and that “there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened”.

Harry said Charles “stopped taking my calls” when the Sussexes decided to step back as senior royals.

Meghan’s strained relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, has also hit headlines over the years and was mentioned during the Oprah interview.

Harriet Hall, columnist for the Independent, wrote in an opinion piece for the publication that the hate Meghan has received over the book will only help her to sell copies.

She said: “Ultimately, whether the book is good or not isn’t really important at this stage – but with the attention the trolls are giving it, even if it isn’t, it’s obviously going to be a bestseller.

“Bit of an own goal, that.”

In a tweet, Ms Hall added: “Revenge is a dish best served on the pages of multi million dollar deals and Meghan Markle sure is serving it up in spades.

“What better way to stick it to your haters than by being a roaring success? Look forward to The Bench topping the bestseller lists.”

Meghan is also set to voice an audio version of her book and the story will be accompanied by images from the award-winning illustrator Christian Robinson.

In a statement, the Duchess said: “The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born.

“That poem became this story.”

She added: “My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the make-up, as much as it does with mine.”
