Meghan Markle’s plan for the forthcoming Coronation could have “serious repercussions”, a royal expert has claimed. It has sparked new conversations about her royal title, with writer Daniela Elser suggesting the decision to skip the Coronation could cause problems.

With Prince Harry set to join the royals at Westminster Abbey on May 6, Meghan will – according to a Palace statement released on Wednesday – “remain in California”. The 41-year-old with stay with the couple’s two children, Archie – who will celebrate his fourth birthday on the day of the Coronation – and Lilibet.

Elser said that Meghan “choice to not go” is her not choosing to “support for her father-in-law”.

Writing for, Elser said: “Their decision for Meghan not to go could have serious repercussions, not least when it comes to their Sussex titles.

“Because here’s the crux of the matter: In making the choice to not go and to not show her support for her father-in-law, to not be there for one of the biggest moments for the monarchy in the better part of a century, she is making her position in regards to the institution pretty damn obvious.”
