Meghan Markle has recalled attending a secret “fun” Halloween party with Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie in the early days of dating the Duke in the first episode of their explosive new Netflix series. The Duchess of Sussex says that while they were “petrified” for the news of her and Harry’s relationship to break, they used the party as a potential “last shot” to go out with the world unaware of their status.
Meghan revealed that Harry’s former communications secretary Jason Knauf told Harry “to let him know that the story [of the pair dating] was scooped by a tabloid”.
She recalled that Harry had said: “Well, if it’s gonna come out tomorrow, let’s go and have fun tonight.”
In the episode, Harry claimed that, in October 2016, the couple “went to this Halloween party together where we could be completely dressed up and no one would know”.
Harry continued that the couple “pulled the pin on the fun grenade”.
Meghan added: “[Harry’s] cousin, Eugenie, and her boyfriend, at the time, Jack, and my friend Marcus, were there too.
“It was so great. Just silly fun.”
Meghan then added, “and then…”, with a snap of her fingers.
Speaking on the first episode, Harry revealed that the couple had been “dating secretly since July” of 2016.
Meghan revealed that Harry had tried to “prepare” her for what the world knowing “might be like” due to “what he’d experienced in the past”.
