Shocking body camera footage captured the moment police rescued a woman chained to the floor in a man’s home in Kentucky.
On Wednesday, August 16, Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officers responded to a home after neighbors reported hearing a woman screaming for help from a second-story window.
Officers first tried to breach the house’s front door, but all of the doors and windows on the house’s first floor were barricaded from the inside.
A neighbor provided the officers with a ladder, which they used to reach the distressed woman on the second floor.
‘Inside, they discovered an adult female, chained to the floor,’ the LMPD said in a news release. ‘The woman had a chain around her neck, which was secured by a MasterLock, and that chain was bolted to the floor with screws.’
Police were able to free the victim by using a hatchet to hack the chain off from the floor. Once she was rescued from the house, officers then used bolt cutters to remove the lock from her neck.
LMPD arrested a suspect two days after the rescue. Moises May, 36, was arrested as he was returning to the Louisville home.
According to charging documents obtained by the Louisville Courier Journal, May and the victim were arguing before he got angry. The suspect then ‘used a machete to cut off a majority of her hair.’
Prosecutors also said that May slapped the victim and threatened to kill her multiple times.
According to investigators, May chained her to the floor when she returned to the home the next day to collect her belongings. He then took her cell phone so that she couldn’t call for help.
May pleaded not guilty to multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including kidnapping, assault, and terroristic threats.
He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing next Monday, August 28.
