A suspected murder victim whose body was found burning in the street has been pictured as detectives continue to piece together what happened to him.
Loeike Guei, 23, lived on Thornton Heath but was discovered on fire shortly after 6am on Thursday roughly three miles away in Mitcham, south London.
A post-mortem examination gave a preliminary cause of death as a head injury and police are treating his death as suspicious.
Mr Guei’s family are aware and are being supported by specially trained officers.
No arrests have yet been made and a cordon remains in place while enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of how he died.
The Met’s Specialist Crime Command is investigating, led by Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley.
He said: ‘Loeike’s family have been intensely shocked by the loss of their loved one and are at the very beginning of coming to terms with their grief.
‘Foremost in our thoughts are their welfare – they are being supported by specially trained officers and we ask that their privacy is respected at this terribly sad time.
‘We are in the initial stages of our investigation and are keeping an open mind with regards any motive.’
DCI Jolley added that they have made ‘good progress’ with ‘a number of leads’ but want anyone who may have seen anything to come forward.
He added: ‘What matters most is that you make the call. Loeike’s family are traumatised and we need the support of the public in bringing them justice.’
