NHS England to move into highest level of emergency alert

NHS England will move into its highest level of emergency alert at midnight as fears mount it will run out of beds during the second coronavirus wave.

Sir Simon Stevens, chief executive of NHS England, announced on Wednesday the health service would return to ‘level 4’ alert.

It comes as England is set to enter a second national lockdown at midnight.
