Officer airlifted to hospital with burns as man arrested for attempted murder

A police officer has been airlifted to hospital after being burned severely on his arms and legs.

The attack took place around 10.20am this morning in Newquay, Cornwall.

Several emergency services vehicles were seen attending the scene near Newquay Tretherras School in Trevenson Road. The incident is not believed to be related to the school.

The officer’s injuries have been described as severe but not life-threatening.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The suspect remains in police custody, Devon and Cornwall Police said.
