People are still waking up in the dark to queue for £1.99 Prime drinks at Aldi

Hundreds of customers queued outside Aldi stores before sunrise to get their hands on discounted Prime energy drinks today.

Shoppers got up as early as 4am to snap up the £1.99 bottles, but it wasn’t a repeat of the chaotic scenes from December, when the drinks, created by YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI, were first released.

Among those was Pam Ryan, who finally got her hands on four bottles after 12 failed attempts.

The 59-year-old said she was ‘delighted’ after buying the drinks for her three grandchildren, Ebonie, 18, Thea, 12, and Harry, 10, at the Ancoats store in Manchester.

She said: ‘I went in December when they had it and the queues were massive so unfortunately we didn’t get any.

‘My grandkids are going to be absolutely delighted and just over the moon when I pick them up from school later.

‘I’ve probably tried around a dozen times but I’m absolutely delighted now because it’s obviously for the children.’

Kaden Lucas, 18, woke up at 4.40am to re-stock his drinks collection and successfully bagged nine bottles in West Surrey.

He first headed to Asda at 5.30am this morning, bought three bottles and then went to Aldi where he got six bottles after queueing for an hour and a half.

Kaden said: ‘We were the first in the queue so the first to go straight in and there was about 20 people behind us.’

The college student said he thinks the drinks are so sought-after because of the social media stars’ popularity but said he will ‘get more in the future.’

Some social media users still ‘couldn’t face’ queueing up for the popular beverage.

One wrote: ‘I’ll give it a miss but it would be better if it was a set number of bottles per customer, rather than 1 of each flavour.

‘I’m giving Aldi a wide berth today.’

Another said: ‘Cancelling my big shop, I can’t be bothered with that.’

Aldi reassured customers that six flavours of the drink will be available in all stores nationwide.

A spokesperson said: ‘These will be available in Aldi stores nationwide. The drink will be a Specialbuy – and as with all Specialbuys, once they’re gone, they’re gone.’
