Officers were alerted to a “stolen” car being driven erratically this morning in Sutton Ings, Hull. A red Vauxhall Corsa was found crashed in a hedge close to a field nearby. Since then, police have become embroiled in the standoff with a youth who took to a roof on the same estate.

Armed police, negotiators and even fire engines have been at the scene in the hours since, Hull Live reports.

A police helicopter has also been seen circling overhead.

The youth appeared to have caused damage to the roof, with damaged tiles scattered on the pavement below.

One person has been arrested in connection with the incident involving the suspected stolen Vauxhall, Humberside Police said.

But residents in Sutton Ings have been asked to remain inside their homes while the operation continues.

Claire Greaves, who lives on the estate, said: “They have been here for hours.

“I heard all the police cars arrive, they seemed to be up and down a few times and then descended on the property.”

The car was stolen from a driveway in Bransholme, around three miles north from Sutton Ings.

A spokesman for the police force said: “This is an ongoing incident and I can confirm we are in attendance in the area where a youth has taken to the roof of a property.

“The incident is related to reports that a suspected stolen vehicle was seen driving erratically around 9am this morning in Hull.

“Our enquiries are continuing and one person has been arrested at this time.

“Log 140 of today refers and anyone with information can call us on 101 and quote this log.”

The operation continues.
