Police officer seriously injured after being stabbed in central London

A police officer is reportedly seriously injured after being stabbed in central London overnight.

The Metropolitan Police told the BBC two male officers were attacked in Haymarket and both were injured, with one being treated in hospital.

Haymarket is in the St James’s area of the City of Westminster, running from Piccadilly Circus in the north to Pall Mall at the southern end.

Video showed Leicester Square cordoned off in the early hours of this morning.

The Metropolitan Police have not yet released a public statement on the incident.
