The Duke of York stepped back from royal life in 2019 following the disastrous interview with the BBC over his relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. But Andrew reportedly has asked the Queen to be allowed to temporarily step back as a senior royal following the death of Prince Philip.
When stepping back from royal life, Andrew stepped down as patron of Malaria No More UK following his disastrous BBC interview.
But despite reports Andrew is looking for a way back into the Firm, the Duke of York has been replaced as patron of the charity which works to end the disease.
James Whiting, chief executive of Malaria No More UK, said: “We are empowered by the support of His Royal Highness and look forward to working with him to ensure our global community meets the vital internationally agreed targets towards ending malaria and saving millions of children’s lives in the decades ahead.
“We must not let COVID-19 or climate change put us into retreat.
“Let 2021 be the year when we get back on track to end this preventable disease.”
Malaria kills more than 400,000 people a year and about 94 percent of all cases and deaths are reported in Africa.
This is the second organisation that has replaced Andrew with Charles.
Charles became the patron of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra last month, a role which Andrew held relieved of his patronage by its board in 2019.
It was reported last month Prince Charles is “adamant” there is no way back for Andrew while allegations hang over him.
A source told the MailOnline: “Prince Andrew might hope that this sad situation changes things, but Prince Charles is adamant there is no way back while allegations hang over him.
“He spoke on camera in a private capacity because this is a family event.
“No one can stop him doing that.”

Last month, a source said Andrew believes in his “heart of hearts” he can make a return to royal duties.
A source said: “He still harbours thoughts that he can make a comeback.
“He genuinely thinks that’s possible.
“He still does believe in his heart of hearts that he can return and that time will be a healer.
“He thinks he will be able to resume royal duties at some point and save his reputation.
“He hopes the public if he’s supporting his mother in this difficult time, might give him the benefit of the doubt.
“He hopes there is a way back.”
In December, the Queen kicked off a new era for the Royal Family with an event attended by seven of her family members – with the group quickly being dubbed the “New Firm”.
Andrew, as well as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, were notably absent from the line-up.
The New Firm included Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Anne and Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.
