Prince Andrew's Pizza Express alibi called into question as diary unearthed

Prince Andrew’s alibi that he was at a Pizza Express on the night he is accused of having sex with an underage Virginia Roberts is under fresh scrutiny.

His daughter Princess Beatrice says she has ‘absolutely no recollection’ of the birthday party which her father claimed to have attended on March 10, 2001.

The family who hosted confirmed she had attended but had no memory of the Duke of York being there.

His family diary said he had a home manicure booked on the afternoon he claimed to drop his then 12-year-old daughter off at the restaurant in Woking, according to the Daily Mail.

Prince Andrew first claimed he was at Pizza Express on the evening in question during a car crash interview with the BBC last year, as he faced increasing scrutiny over his involvement with paedophile billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.

The Duke of York is alleged to have slept with Virginia Giuffre Roberts – a victim of his friend’s sex trafficking ring – on three separate occasions in 2001, twice while she was underage.

Prince Andrew has always vehemently denied any form of sexual contact or relationship with Ms Roberts, now 35.

The Daily Mail’s probe found a family diary entry for March 10, 2001 reading ‘xxxxxx’s party @Ambassadors Theatre, Woking’, which was confirmed to be hosted by the family of one of Beatrice’s school friends.

The Ambassador Theatre group owns the town’s New Victoria theatre group, which was hosting a touring production of Michael Frayn’s ‘Noises Off’ at the time.

Matinee performances usually begin at 2.30pm, the exact time a ‘manicure’ was pencilled in the diary for ‘A’ – Andrew – with a woman named ‘Jeanne’.

This suggests the Duke did not drop Beatrice off at the theatre, more than 10 miles from his home of Sunninghill Park, Ascot, if she was to make it on time.

The third and final entry on the diary says ‘Pizza Express’, gives some credibility to Andrew’s claim in the BBC interview that he had ‘taken Beatrice to a Pizza Express in Woking for a party at, I suppose, sort of 4pm or 5pm in the afternoon.’

It is understood Andrew had a ‘vague recollection’ of being parked up and ‘waiting under a railway bridge’ nearby.

A source claimed Beatrice had ‘absolutely no recall whatsoever’ of the Pizza Express party or her father coming to collect her.

She added that she had ‘any number’ of meals at the Woking branch and couldn’t remember every single one two decades later.

In a statement, the parents who hosted the party said Beatrice did attend, but they have no pictures or a detailed recall of what happened.

They added: ‘We had made a deliberate decision from the outset not to take photographs of, or around, Bea as it seemed to be permanently open season among some parents who indulged in this sport.

‘Bea was one of our daughter’s friends at school. There were no special arrangements or formalities regarding her parents, they were frequently around the school and the girls’ social lives. They were informal and unobtrusive.’

A royal protection officer who was reportedly on duty on the weekend in question could have backed up Andrew’s alibi, but has since died. Housekeepers said they ‘can’t remember’ his movements.

It is possible Beatrice was ferried around by the family’s bodyguards or domestic staff, which would leave Andrew enough time to drive to central London before 5pm.

If he was only in Woking between 4-5pm as he claimed, then he still could have reached the capital in time for late tea with Epstein and friends.

But if he had been to pick Beatrice up at the end of the meal and took her back to their home, then it’s unlikely he’d be in Central London before 8pm.

Miss Roberts claims Andrew arrived at the central London townhouse of Epstein’s ex-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell at 6pm that evening and had tea and biscuits before heading for a night out.

She maintains that she danced with Prince Andrew in the Tramp nightclub in Mayfair before having sex.

The Duke says he doesn’t recall meeting his accuser, despite a widely publicised photo of him with his arm wrapped around her waist.

Miss Roberts says this was taken after their night out together back at the home of Maxwell, who in custody facing child sex trafficking charges.

A spokesman for Andrew said: ‘It would not be appropriate to comment on any of these matters.’

A friend added: ‘The duke has already publicly stated he has no recollection of meeting Virginia Roberts. Nor has he any recollection of dining in a Chinese restaurant or attending Tramp on the night in question.

‘It is also well known amongst the duke’s circle of friends and his staff that he has been teetotal his entire adult life.’

Miss Roberts’ representatives in New York did not respond to requests for comment.mar
