Kate, 54, will appear on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories this evening for a tell-all chat with the journalist. The Good Morning Britain (GMB) presenter will discuss her life with her former GMB co-star for his last episode of the show. Kate is set to take over from Piers as host of the long-running ITV series that features interviews with high-profile celebrities. Piers is departing the programme after 12 years and 100 episodes, and will leave his final three planned shows to Kate to present.

The star will provide the latest health update on her husband Derek Draper, who is battling COVID-19 in hospital and remains desperately ill.

Former lobbyist and Labour Party political adviser Derek is the UK’s longest-surviving patient to contract the virus.

He has been very unwell for nearly two years now.

Kate has opened up on several occasions about her husband’s condition during interviews and her appearances on GMB.

She reveals to Piers the impact his prolonged illness and 24-hour care has had on her and her family.

The couple’s plight even attracted an offer of help from a senior member of the Royal Family, who had written a letter offering the use of the Firm’s doctors to assist Derek.

Kate kept the royal’s identity secret until she thanked Charles for his help at a Prince’s Trust awards function in October.

The Daily Mirror’s royal editor Russell Myers said that Charles had been “operating in the shadows” as he made an “incredible” offer to Kate.

The journalist and commentator was speaking on royal podcast ‘Pod Save The Queen’, hosted by Zoe Forsey in October.

He said: “She essentially thanked him for getting in touch and it then became apparent that it was Prince Charles who had written this letter.”

Mr Myers said the letter was an “incredible gesture to say, ‘we’ve heard about what’s been going on with your family’”.

Kate turned down the offer and was “immensely complimentary” about the care Derek had received through the NHS, according to the royal expert.

He added: “She said that it was a lovely offer. Very surreal. She was incredibly touched by it.”

Mr Myers claimed that Charles reaching out to Kate demonstrated the “compassion” of members of the Royal Family.

The expert also explained that, before the Prince of Wales had been revealed as the mystery royal behind the offer, some people had suspected that it was the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

He said: “It was nice to close that end of the story and the fact that it wasn’t necessarily the people you thought it was.

“It was other people operating in the shadows as it were.”

When Kate met Charles at the Prince’s Trust event at St James’s Palace, microphones picked up her conversation with him.

She said: “And you might not remember, but you were very kind to me because my husband got very sick with Covid after the last Prince’s Trust awards.

“You wrote to me and gave me help, so thank you very much… and he did improve.”
