Prince Charles apparently offered the TV presenter access to royal doctors to help her husband. Kate has spoken openly about her husband’s condition after being infected with coronavirus last March. The former political advisor, who spent more than a year in hospital, suffered serious complications, including brain inflammation as well as damage to his lungs, heart, kidneys and liver.

Royal Editor of the Daily Mirror Russel Myers, spoke about the alleged gesture on the Pod Save The Queen podcast. 

Mr Myers said: “Kate Garraway’s husband Derek is essentially known as the person who has suffered extremely badly with COVID for the longest.”

“He was in intensive care for nine or ten months. He is now released from hospital and back at home.”

“She recently revealed that there was a member of the Royal Family who had written to her and offered the help of royal doctors to see if there was anything they could do.”

“She didn’t mention who it was at the time, people assumed it was one of the Cambridge’s.”

“We’re well aware of the Pride of Britain awards, in conjunction with the Daily Mirror and ITV, who Kate Garraway works for.”

He added: “She’s had a real big part to play in it over the years.”

“Last year when William and Kate were giving the awards to the NHS heroes and their reference to coronavirus, Derek was severely ill.”

“She had a real relationship and rapport with them.”

“She didn’t speak about who had contacted her, however, there was an engagement during the week and Prince Charles was present at the function for the Prince’s Trust.”

“He was speaking to Kate right at the end and it was caught on camera that she essentially thanked him for getting in touch.”

“It then became apparent that it was Prince Charles that has written this letter and offered an incredible gesture to say, we’ve heard about what’s going on with your family and if there’s anything we can do.”

“Kate to her credit was immensely complimentary of the NHS and didn’t take the offer up.”

Kate has given a recent update on her husband, announcing that: “The doctors believe that there will be a trajectory, but that it’ll be very slow.

“Derek will still sleep for 20 hours a day, for example.”

Derek now receives 24 hour care after returning to the family home in April.
