Prince Charles’s visited the London hospital where his father, Prince Philip, was treated weeks before his death to pay a special thanks to the NHS staff in person. Omid Scobie said Charles’s visit to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital and his private audience with medics shows the Prince is still “rocked” by the Duke of Edinburgh’s sad passing last month. Mr Scobie said the trip showed the Prince of Wales wanted to acknowledge the people who were around in his father’s “final moments.”

Mr Scobie told The HeirPod listeners: “I think for him of course we have moved out of that period of national mourning and even the royal period of mourning following Prince Philip’s death.

“But it is clear that Prince Charles was really rocked by the loss of his father.

“Because we still see him making sure to acknowledge his father’s death and the people that were around him in those final moments in the work that he is doing.

Podcast contributor Maggie Rulli added: “What struck me about this was that as with all grieving families the rest of the world and life keeps going on.

“But the family is obviously still grieving and on the one hand, it feels like the funeral for Prince Philip was soo long ago but it really wasn’t.

“It was just a few weeks ago, and so his death and his passing is still so raw for all of them.”

ABC News foreign correspondent added: “This moment brought that back for me.

“That he wanted to thank the people who were there for his father and also it is a reminder that he lost his dad not that long ago.

“While news goes quickly and the royal drama keeps developing this very moment of grief is still real for the family.”

Prince Charles is reported to have asked for a private meeting with the hospital staff who treated his father during the visit last Thursday.

He told them: “I couldn’t not stop to thank you.

“Well done, all of you. You’re amazing.”

The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to the private hospital in March before undergoing surgery to treat a “preexisting heart condition”.

The 99-year-old was later able to return home to Windsor Castle before the Duke died “peacefully” a few weeks later on April 9.

Prince Charles publically acknowledged his father’s death in a video message to celebrate the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

He said: “This year so many families, like my own, will have an empty seat at their dinner table.”
