Prince Harry, 37, and his wife Meghan Markle, 40, visited the Big Apple last week on a three-day tour. But the MailOnline has revealed the estranged Sussexes had been protected by bodyguards hired by another celebrity.

Taylor Swift, 31, reportedly employs an ex-NYPD officer who appeared to chaperone the royal couple.

The former police officer, known as Jimmy, was profiled in a 2014 report by Rolling Stone.

In the report the magazine described Jimmy as having provided “Defcon-3 level” security for the American singer.

The security guard reportedly lives in a £3.7million apartment across the hall from Ms Swift’s own £11.2million penthouse.

But Jimmy is also said to have control of the locks on the building’s front door and bolts up the property irrespective of who comes in and out.

Taylor Swift’s neighbours at her Tribeca home include British-born actor Orlando Bloom.

According to the MailOnline, Jimmy was accompanied in New York by a “shorter”, “burlier” guard who was in his 40s.

The pair were reportedly spotted at the Carlyle Hotel, where the Sussexes were staying during their trip to the Big Apple, on the city’s Upper East Side.

During their visit, Harry and Meghan paid their respects at a 9/11 memorial and appeared on stage at the Global Citizen concert in the city’s Central Park.

However, the Sussexes are not the only members of the Firm to have recently been associated with the 11-time Grammy winning singer.

Earlier this year, a royal commentator revealed how the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had been considering working alongside the US-born singer.

The Daily Mail’s Charlie Lankston said: “We do understand that they have broached the idea of getting to know Taylor Swift a bit better.
