Prince Harry has been compared to a “distressed child” as Netflix has released previously unseen footage of the royal reacting to a text from his brother. The Prince of Wales reached out to Prince Harry back in 2021, after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opened up about their experience in the Royal Family as part of an unprecedented interview with Oprah Winfrey. A body language expert has analysed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reaction in the tense moment the text from Prince William arrived, concluding the couple resorted to “childlike” behaviour patterns.

In the final episode of the six-part series, Prince Harry is seen interrupting a conversation between Meghan and Tyler Perry, a close friend of the couple.

He flashes his phone towards the Duchess of Sussex who asks: “What am I looking at? Wow.”

Once it is clear the contents of the screen have sparked concern for Meghan, Prince Harry sniffs and pulls back his phone, frowning intensely at the message.

The Duchess of Sussex explained: “H just got a text. H just got a text from his brother.”

Contemplating how to tackle the text, Prince Harry said: “I wish I knew what to do.”

The Duchess replied: “I know. Let’s take a breather. Get some air and then decide.”

In review, the reactions of both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been described as that of a “small, distressed child” and a “maternal” character, respectively.

Body language expert Judi James discussed her findings with the Daily Star.

Ms James explained: “Harry’s response to the text from William looks dramatic and childlike in terms of his body language.

“Like a small distressed child he places his fingers over his mouth before holding his arm out fully extended to show it to Meghan, who adopts a more maternal role.

“His fingers go back to his lips as he re-reads but then we see him in a childlike pose of distress, standing with his arms up and his hands holding the back of his head while his belly is fully exposed under his lifted t-shirt.

“Meghan’s response is totally compatible with this childlike look. She stands to wrap her arms around him and to rock him gently.”

While the exact contents of the text were not revealed within the series, Prince Harry did open up about the tensions within the brotherly relationship.

Recalling a meeting of senior members of the Royal Family, Prince Harry alleged Prince William had lost his temper as the group negotiated how the Duke and Duchess would step back from their official duties.

The Duke of Sussex explained: “It became very clear very quickly, that goal was not up for discussion or debate.

“It was terrifying to have my brother scream and shout at me, and my father says things that just simply weren’t true, and my grandmother, you know, quietly sit there, and sort of take it all in.”

In the couple’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey back in 2021, Prince Harry had already suggested he and Prince William were distanced and “on different paths”.

The Duke of Sussex explained: “I love William to bits. He’s my brother. We’ve been through hell together. I mean, we have a shared experience – but we’re on different paths.”

He later added: “The relationship is space at the moment. And, you know, time heals all things, hopefully.”

Reflecting on his present-day family relationships within the Netflix series, Prince Harry said: “I’ve had to make peace with the fact that we’re probably never gonna get genuine accountability or a genuine apology.

“You know, my wife and I, we’re moving on. We’re focused on what’s coming next.”
