Prince Philip “won’t want to be” in the hospital at the moment, a commentator has claimed. The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London on Tuesday evening after feeling unwell, according to Buckingham Palace. Daily Mail Consultant Editor Andrew Pierce discussed on ITV’s Good Morning Britain how the royal will be holding up with the forced hospital stay.

He said: “The thing is we all know the one place the Duke of Edinburgh certainly won’t want to be at the moment is that hospital.

“He hates all fuss. Apparently, before he went in, he told his doctors I don’t want any fuss.

“He’ll be climbing up the wall to try and get out of there.

“But he is the age he is. They have to take great precautions.”

Mr Pierce continued: “Even though the Palace say it’s just a precaution, they’d be most reluctant, you would think, to put a 99-year-old person into hospital.

“Especially at the moment during the great Covid crisis.

“You just have to think about what happened to lovely Captain Tom.

“He was just a few months older than Prince Philip. He went into hospital and, of course, we lost him.”

The commentator added: “Now no suggestion that there is any major illness with Prince Philip.

“He’s only a few months away from his milestone, and we want him to get there.

“I want to see the telegram that his wife sends him on his 100th birthday.”

Celebrations are currently being planned to mark the Duke’s centenary in June.

A royal source said Philip does not have a coronavirus-related illness.

Buckingham Palace released a statement that read: “The Duke’s admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’s Doctor, after feeling unwell.

“He is expected to remain in hospital for a few days of observation and rest.”

A Downing Street spokesman has said: “The Prime Minister sends his best wishes to the Duke of Edinburgh as he undergoes a few days of rest in hospital.”
