William and Kate were at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday for the Together at Christmas community carol service. The royal couple were joined for the event by Zara and Mike Tindall, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, Sophie, Countess of Wessex and Kate’s family, the Middletons. The event, which was spearheaded by Kate, was a means of saying thank you to people across the UK who had supported their communities through the coronavirus pandemic.

Those invited included representatives from the Cambridge’s royal patronages, armed forces personnel involved in the evacuation from Afghanistan, young carers and faith leaders.

The carol service was recorded and will be broadcast on ITV on Christmas eve.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have become central and stable figures within the Firm, particularly during a difficult year for the Royal Family.

The couple, who celebrated their ten-year anniversary in April, now have three children together.

But before William and Kate became an item, the young prince allegedly spoke online with pop star Ms Spears.

Mr Andersen claimed in his new book ‘Brother and Wives: Inside the Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan’ that the Duke of Cambridge once had a “cyber relationship”.

Mr Andersen told US Weekly: “[Prince William and Ms Spears] tried to get together back when they were young.”

He then added: “He also had a kind of similar cyber relationship with Lauren Bush, the model and the niece of President [George W.] Bush.”

The journalist claimed that, while the Duke of Cambridge and the ‘Toxic’ singer were in contact, they never actually met.

Mr Andersen added: “There may have been phone conversations but I don’t recall that they ever actually managed to get together during that period.”

In a 2002 ITV interview, Ms Spears confirmed that she had exchanged emails with William.

Speaking on the Frank Skinner Show, the singer said the pair “exchanged emails for a little bit and he was supposed to come and see her somewhere but it didn’t work out”.

William met Kate while studying at the University of St Andrews in 2001 and the pair were housemates before they became a couple.

After a seven-year courtship, which included a very brief split in 2007, the couple announced their engagement in 2010.

During their engagement interview with ITV, Kate opened up about their brief breakup, and how the time apart allowed the pair to grow as individuals.

She said: “At the time, I wasn’t very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person.

“You find things about yourself that maybe you hadn’t realised.

“I really valued that time for me.”

A year later, they married at Westminster Abbey, in front of a peak UK television audience of 26.3 million.

Meanwhile, Ms Spears was briefly married to Jason Alexander in 2004 and then to Kevin Federline.

The singer and Mr Federline were together between 2004 and 2007 and the pair share two sons together ‒ Preston,16 and Jayden, 15.

This year the pop icon confirmed her engagement to Sam Asghari after nearly five years together.
