Prince William and Prince Harry are due to attend the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue at Kensington Palace later this Summer. The ceremony will be the first time the brothers will be together in the same place since the Duke of Sussex moved to the US. The fallout from the bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview has worsened the already frayed ties between the two siblings. However, Palace insider Charlie Lankston has predicted both princes to “put on a brave face” to honour their mother.

Ms Lankston told Access Royals: “In terms of a timeline I think the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue is going to be a really key date.

“Because that is not something that Prince Harry will want to miss, it is not something that he is going to miss unless circumstances far beyond his control come into play.

“What sources are saying to us now is that both him and William understand that even if things between them are not great even at that point they will put on a brave face and they will put on a cordial display.

“Because what is most important on that day is honouring their mother’s incredible legacy and paying tribute to the fantastic woman that she was.”

She added: “Neither of them want their own personal tribulations to get in the way of that happening.”

The pair have held “inconclusive” talks following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s sit down with talk show host Oprah earlier this month March.

William and Harry were reportedly moving towards a truce but the backlash following the heavy allegations levelled in the interview have scuppered that progress.

Royal biographer Anna Pasternak told Fox News: “Given what’s been put out there in the public arena, the brothers and the family look quite fragile at the moment.

But it’s clear they desperately need healing as they prepare to stand shoulder to shoulder in honour of their mother.

“And I think the grudges and the hurts seem to be building up on both sides and widening the rift between the brothers, as opposed to lessening it.”

Ms Pasternak however insisted William and Harry’s love for their mother may yet be key to bringing them together.

She continued: “The greatest hope of reconciliation lies in the memory of their mother.

“That is what will unite them still today. I believe they will put their differences aside for her.

“And I believe there is a possibility of us witnessing that at the unveiling.”

Last week, CBS This Morning host Gayle King said that she had spoken with the Sussexes over the weekend.

She confirmed that Harry had spoken to his father, the Prince of Wales, and brother the Duke of Cambridge, before adding that the talks were “unproductive”.
