The Princess Royal, 70, is widely thought to be the hardest-working royal but much of what she does is often behind the scenes with less attention. Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams insisted Anne “has the role she wants” and does not seek a “celebrity or glamorous profile”.

Mr Fitzwilliams told “She has the role she wants.

“She is a tremendously hard worker.

“She doesn’t want the sort of celebrity or glamorous profile.

“What she wants to do is to do the work that goes with the job.

“And she certainly has no intention of slowing down at 70.

“I don’t know how much more she can fit in.

“I think the situation as it is is how she likes it.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced bombshell plans to quit as senior royals in January 2020.

After a final round of engagements, they ended royal duties on March 31.

Meghan and Harry are now living in an £11million mansion in California with their young son Archie.

They have struck lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify to make shows and podcasts as they launch new careers away from the Royal Family.

Meanwhile, Anne has seen a resurgence in her popularity following her portrayal in Netflix’s The Crown. She is played by Erin Doherty in the royal drama.

Anne previously admitted she watched early episodes of the show and found them “quite interesting”.

But the no-nonsense royal scoffed at claims it took two hours to style the actress’s hair to look like hers.

Speaking during ITV documentary Anne: The Princess Royal at 70, she said: “I read an article the other day about The Crown, the actress was talking about how long it took them to do their hair like I did.

“And I’m thinking, ‘How could you possibly take that long?’ I mean it takes me ten or 15 minutes.”

Anne has been spending the lockdown at her Gatcombe Park residence in Gloucestershire but Mr Fitzwilliams claimed she is likely to be finding it “frustrating”.

He said: “She is a hard worker. I think it must be a particularly frustrating time for her at the moment because she’s in lockdown at Gatcombe Park.

“As she said in that documentary which marked when she was 70, sitting still really doesn’t happen very much, so she does find it frustrating.

“She’s been carrying out engagements virtually and by telephone, I understand, for various charities.”
