Princess Anne’s ‘very weird’ exercise in banned royal documentary leaves fans baffled

Princess Anne: Royal expert discusses ‘very weird’ activity

Princess Anne was shown doing naval exercises in the Royal Family’s controversial 1969 documentary. The behind the scenes footage of the Queen, Prince Philip and their children was banned by the Monarch supposedly for being overly intimate. However, a copy of the video has resurfaced which has led many royal fans to pick out their favourite moments, including Royally Obsessed podcast hosts Roberta Fiorito and Rachel Bowie.

Ms Fiorito told listeners of one scene: “Princess Anne is on this like pulley system between two boats that are both moving.

“It was just very weird, I couldn’t figure it out.

“She just doesn’t smile at all in the documentary, and is one of my favourite people because of it.

“She’s very wry, and seems very cool.”

She added: “I just think she doesn’t give an F about anything.”

In fact, Princess Anne and Prince Charles had been performing naval exercises on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

This required them to don life jackets and be hoisted over the ocean by what appears to be a zip line from one ship to another and back.

Princess Anne expressed her scathing opinion about the documentary in the past.

She is reported to have said: “I never liked the idea of the Royal Family film.

“I always thought it was a rotten idea. The attention that had been brought on one ever since one was a child, you just didn’t want anymore.”

However, Ms Bowie disagreed, claiming that there wasn’t “anything bad about it”.

She told the podcast: “I loved it, I thought it was weird that it should be banned, especially now.

“I guess we’re so used to seeing behind the scenes, I think they should put it out there.

“I just don’t think that there’s anything bad about it.

“In general, I just love that the Queen is so smiley. I think that’s something that I didn’t realise before.

“She’s so funny, she makes light of a lot and she makes you comfortable.”
