Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are expecting their first child together in the autumn. The couple announced the joyous news this morning in the traditional royal way, via an official statement from Buckingham Palace.

It said: “Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year.

“The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”

It comes as Princess Eugenie and the Duchess of Sussex chose to take a modern spin on announcing their respective pregnancies.

In September 2020, Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank delivered their baby news through social media.

Eugenie used her personal Instagram account and shared a pair of tiny furry slippers to her more than one million followers.

The cute photograph was accompanied by the caption: “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021.”

It was then confirmed by Buckingham Palace, a statement said: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.

“The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.”

Eugenie gave birth to a baby boy, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, on February 9.

Five days later, Meghan and Prince Harry announced they were expecting their second child.

The couple, who are no longer working royals, confirmed the baby news on Valentine’s Day by sharing an adorable black-and-white photograph of themselves sat underneath a tree.

A spokesperson for the couple said: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

It was then followed by a statement from Buckingham Palace, which said the Royal Family were “delighted”.

Meghan and Harry confirmed they are expecting a baby girl when they took part in their interview with Oprah Winfrey in March.

Beatrice and Edo’s first born will be 11th-in-line respectively.

Bookmakers’ are already bets on the name of the baby and Ladbrokes has Florence and Theodore as the early favourites at 4-1 and 9-2.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “The latest odds suggest Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo will opt for a traditional name with a nod to the latter’s Italian roots.

“And as things stand it’s Florence and Theodore leading the way in the betting.”
