After being forced to postpone their wedding in May due to the coronavirus pandemic, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s eldest daughter married her partner in a secret ceremony today.

Now, as the couple celebrate finally tying the knot, it has been revealed Beatrice has inherited the title of Italian Contessa or Nobile Donna, which translates as noble woman.

These titles come from Edoardo’s side as the same as his father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, descend from Italian aristocracy.

Before the wedding, he told the Mail Online: “Edoardo is the only male descendant taking the family into the next generation.

“He is a count – his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”

This new title means any children from Beatrice and Edoardo will be in line to the British throne as well as descending from Italian aristocracy.

The ceremony was attended only by a handful of people – including the Queen, Prince Philip and the father of the bride, Prince Andrew.

The small ceremony took place at the All Saints Chapel in Windsor Great Park, just a short walk away from the Royal Lodge, where the Yorks live.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the nuptials had taken place earlier this morning by issuing a brief statement.

It read: “The private wedding ceremony of Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi took place at 11am on Friday 17 July at The Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor.

“The small ceremony was attended by The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh and close family.

“The wedding took place in accordance with all relevant government guidelines.”

The Queen and Prince Philip were the only members of the Royal Family to have been spotted leaving the nuptials.

The couple left Windsor Castle, where they have been isolating since March 19, and were driven three miles up the Long Walk and through the majestic park to the private church.

The attendance of the Queen at the wedding is believed to have been particularly important to Beatrice and Edo, as a source claimed the secret nuptials took place today to make sure the monarch could attend before leaving Windsor for Balmoral.

Beatrice and Edoardo are expected to release a wedding picture tomorrow in order to not overshadow from Captain Tom Moore’s investiture ceremony.

Not much is known about the secret wedding, but in May Edoardo asked his four-year-old son, Christopher, from a previous relationship to be his best man.

Alessandro, a former British Olympian, was married Nikki Burrows for five years and had two children, Natalia and Edoardo.

The family met Sarah, Duchess of York, during a ski resort in Verbier in 1972 and they have remained close friends.

Back in September last year, Beatrice and Edoardo announced their engagement after a weekend break in Italy.

Not only does Beatrice inherit the new title, but her husband will inherit the family’s residence Villa Mapelli Mozzarellas in Northern Italy.

The sprawling 13-bedroom property is situated less than an hour away from Milan and is surrounded by parkland.
