Princess Eugenie’s name for her first child could be “vetoed” the Queen, an expert has claimed. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s youngest daughter announced that she had given birth to a baby boy today, February 9. Baby Name Expert Jennifer Moss spoke to Kiddies Kingdom about who would have final say.

She said: “As with any other newborn, it is down to the parents to name a royal baby.

“Traditionally, this process took much longer with Queen Elizabeth waiting around a month to announce Prince Charles’ name.

“However, names are now announced publicly much sooner, with Prince Charles and Lady Diana taking a week to announce Prince William’s name.

“Prince Harry’s name was announced on the very same day.”

Ms Moss continued: “The monarch does not necessarily ‘approve’ a royal baby name, but they are to be informed first.

“Queen Elizabeth is told first, and I suspect she does have veto power.”

The baby name expert also gave insight into what Eugenie could end up picking.

She emphasised that despite the Princess’ own unique moniker, a traditional name was not out of the realm of possibility.

Princess Eugenie: Royal experts discuss possible baby names

Ms Moss said: “Royals will always honour the generations before them, but as the royal family modernise over time, we will start to see more unique names appear.

“They’ll most likely be integrated in the middle as opposed to a leading name, to be subtle and not so shocking.

“The naturally shedding of names over the years is a move to becoming more modern.”

The expert added: “Prince William is officially William Arthur Philip Louis Windsor (four names).

“His children all have three given names: George Alexander Louis, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, and Louis Arthur Charles.”

According to a Buckingham Palace statement, Princess Eugenie’s baby was delivered at 8:55 am this morning at The Portland Hospital.

The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson and Jack Brooksbank’s parents are said to be “delighted with the news”.

The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz, and both mother and child are “doing well”.
