Royal editor Russell Myers addressed the announcement that the Queen will not be attending the traditional Scottish ceremony kicking off her annual visit to Balmoral. Instead of a full-scale ceremony, Her Majesty is now expected to attend a smaller version of the event. Mr Myers explained that the Queen had not missed the ceremony since becoming the Monarch over 70 years ago.

Mr Myers told Lorraine: “It’s a huge shame not only for the Queen but the many people that come to see her at Balmoral.

“She moved to Scotland from Windsor Castle just a couple of weeks ago, and just in the last few days, she was supposed to attend this traditional ceremony welcoming her to Scotland.

“And I’m told that she will not be taking part in it tomorrow.

“She has not missed any of them since she took her reign more than 70 years ago.

“And just aside from the pandemic, it’s something that is absolutely cemented in her diary, so there will be a smaller ceremony.

“It’s normally quite an occasion, there are pipers from the regiments of Scotland… A Balaklava regiment, and a shetland pony which is the mascot for one of the… We see it last year she looked resplendent in pink.”
