The Queen’s preferred cocktail has a deep link to the Royal Navy, according to royal commentators. The monarch’s drink of choice is famous, and is said to have not changed for decades. Noah Rothbaum, one of the world’s leading cocktail experts, spoke to the Royally Obsessed podcast about the Royal Family’s drink choices.
He told listeners: “It would be remiss if I didn’t mention the Queen’s supposed favourite drink, the Dubonnet cocktail.
“It’s an historic, French sweet, but wine-based aperitif.
“It has quinine in it, a lot of these tonic waters have quinine.
“The whole idea was to fight malaria.”
Mr Rothbaum continued: “Some of this was to make the medicine taste better.
“They thought to add sweetener and make it bubbly.
“Then the British being British were like, ‘We’re going to make a cocktail out of it’.
“And the lime was for scurvy on the boats.”

The expert added: “Because they were on ships so long that they would get scurvy.”
The Queen likes her two parts Dubonnet and one part gin with two cubes of ice and a lemon slice.
She reportedly has this before lunch every day.
Her former personal chef, Darren McGrady, spoke to CNN about her favourite tipple.

He clarified that the monarch does not “wake up in the morning and have a large gin and tonic”.
Mr McGrady said: “She’d be pickled if she drank that much.
“All I said was she likes a gin and Dubonnet.
“That’s her favourite drink.”
