Donald Trump rival Ron DeSantis’ 2024 presidential campaign announce nearly failed to launch on Twitter with Elon Musk hosting after a server meltdown.
Florida Governor DeSantis eventually was able to announce his 2024 bid, after nearly half an hour of technical issues on Twitter Spaces.
‘I am running for president of the United States to lead our great American comeback,’ DeSantis said at 6.26pm ET.
DeSantis appeared to read from prepared remarks in the live audio conversation, after Twitter head Musk said of the breakdown, ‘That was insane, sorry.’
Musk said he was hosting the event from moderator David Sacks’ account because doing it form his own ‘broke the Twitter system’.
Sacks told DeSantis: ‘Congrats on breaking the Internet there.’
As DeSantis continued to speak in his unconventional presidential announce on a social media platform, #DeSaster, Failure to Launch and Crashed trended on Twitter.
DeSantis two minutes before the planned 6pm Twitter Spaces start time tweeted a video announcing his presidential run.

DeSantis filed his paperwork to run for president on Wednesday afternoon.
In the middle of the conversation, the hosts again reiterated that the event was unprecedented with more than 270,000 users tuning in. Musk said there were ‘some scaling issues related to my account’. Sacks said it was working fine ‘with my meager follower’ count.
