Veteran Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle marked the poignant event in a very different way in the USA.

“As in previous years Her Majesty will view the Service from the balcony of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office building.

Why is Remembrance Sunday so important for the Royal Family?

The Queen leads the Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph each year, however, as the Monarch has had to cancel several engagements in recent weeks, it is uncertain whether she will attend the ceremony on Sunday.

Remembrance Day is particularly important for the Queen as she is Commander-in-Chief of the British Armed Forces.

Earlier this month Buckingham Palace released a statement saying that it was the Queen’s ‘firm intention’ to attend this year’s service.

However, if she does have to cancel it will be only the seventh time in the nearly 70 years she has been Queen.
