Royal expert Anna Pasternak has assessed the Duchess of Sussex’s time within The Firm and claims to former actress never wanted to be restricted, but pointed out this could not be possible as “duty always comes first”. She said: “Joining the family comes with a lot of restrictions that Meghan clearly didn’t want. You cannot confuse celebrity with royalty. Duty always comes first.”
Meghan and Harry started dating in the summer of 2016 after being introduced to one another by a mutual friend.
The couple announced their engagement in late 2017 before getting married in May, 2018.
In their engagement interview, Meghan admitted she “didn’t know much about” Harry, prior to meeting.
Speaking to Oprah Winfrey last month, Meghan acknowledged she went into her relationship “naively” with the Queen’s grandson.
The Duchess of Sussex had quit her acting career to become a full-time working royal but admitted she did not know what the role would entail.
Speaking to Oprah, she said: “There was no way to understand what the day-to-day was going to be like, and it’s so different because I didn’t romanticise any element of it.”
Meghan and Harry remain based in California and have embarked on a number of projects, including their Archewell foundation as well as lucrative deals to produce content with Netflix and Spotify.
Ms Pasternak says Meghan “has an ambition that knows no bounds” and predicts should could one day run for political office.
She told Fox News: “I can see Meghan being backed by powerful people and eventually trying for political office.
“I think she has an ambition that knows no bounds. So I wouldn’t be all that surprised if that was part of her agenda. All power to her, if that’s what she really wants.”
