Two years ago today, her son Prince Andrew stepped back from royal duties for the “foreseeable future”.
This came in the wake of mounting pressure following his disastrous interview with Newsnight, which discussed his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Meanwhile, today also would have been her 74th wedding anniversary with her late husband Prince Philip.
Prince Philip died just seven months ago from old age.

Queen urged to strip Meghan and Harry of titles
The Queen has been urged by royal fans to strip the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of their royal titles, following Meghan’s appearance on US talk show, Ellen.
Meghan took part in the show earlier this week, with some fans saying she has “made a mockery of British royalty”.
One critic wrote on Twitter: “Now is definitely the time to strip Meghan of her royal title on the grounds that she is not acting appropriately in public to carry the title that represents the Royal Family.”
While another said: “Meghan Markle is using her Royal title and making a mockery of British Royalty.”
Meghan and Harry were able to keep their royal titles after they stepped back from royal duties in March last year.
Queen’s engagement ring meaning revealed
The Queen’s engagement ring to Prince Philip has been revealed as meaning “eternal love”
A jewellery expert told Express.co.uk that “the rounded shape of the diamond is…thought to represent eternal love, proven by The Queen and Prince Philip’s enduring love for one another over the decades”
She added: “This breath-taking and refined engagement ring is truly fit for a Queen.”
Prince Philip passed away from old age on April 9 2021.
Today would have marked the couple’s 74th wedding anniversary.
