The Royal Family’s future “rests with” Princess Kate, according to a former royal butler. Paul Burrell, who worked alongside the late Princess Diana for 10 years, claims that the Princess of Wales has “enormous responsibility” within the Firm. Referring to Diana, he added that Kate holds the “same role” as the late royal, as our future Queen.
Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Mr Burrell said: “Kate is in such an incredible position because it all rests on her really, the future rests on Kate and that’s an enormous responsibility because if she decided that she didn’t want to be a part of her marriage any more then I think the royal family would collapse.
“Everything is pinned up by Kate, the future is underpinned by Catherine Middleton and that’s incredible.”
Moving on to discuss Diana, he said: “Back in my day, the future seemed to be pinned on Diana Spencer, our future queen.
“Now we’re looking at another Princess of Wales who is in the same role that Diana had, married to a Prince of Wales and the future of the monarchy is down to her. It’s not an enviable position to be in.”
Kate was bestowed the Princess of Wales title, previously held by Diana, in September.
Upon ascending the throne, the King granted his eldest son, Prince William, the title of Prince of Wales.
Kate joined William, and other senior members of the Royal Family, for a royal engagement on Monday.
The Princess of Wales stepped out to support the King on his first Commonwealth Day service as monarch.
The service, an important one in the royal calendar, is typically held annually on the second Monday in March.
Although not a pair for major PDA, body language Judi James claims that Kate and William showed moments “bordering on the flirtatious” during the service.
She told the Mirror that Kate was seen “chatting to William during one of the musical numbers” and, in his reply, William gave his wife a grin which “looked equally cheeky”.

Despite occasionally attending royal events with their two eldest children in tow, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended the Commonwealth Day service alone.
Prince George, 9, and Princess Charlotte, 7, have made some surprise appearance alongside their parents, such as at the late Queen’s funeral.
Kate and William also share Prince Louis, who turn five next month.
