Kate looked elegant as she gave details about this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year’s first virtual awards ceremony, which will be live-streamed at 8pm this evening. She said: “It’s so wonderful to be back at the reopened National History Museum, where we can all enjoy its treasures once again. “I’m here because tomorrow night I’m announcing the fifty-sixth Wildlife Photographer of the Year. “I’ve been lucky enough to have a quick preview and I can say it is truly spectacular.”

The competition also received coverage on BBC Breakfast as hosts Louise Minchin and Dan Walker shared a snippet of some of the entries.

Mr Walker then said: “It’s a big night for wildlife photographers as they wait to find out who has won this year’s wildlife photographer of the year award.

“The winner is actually going to revealed by the Duchess of Sussex later.”

However, he soon realised his slip-up and quickly addressed he meant to say Duchess of Cambridge.

He said: “I said the Duchess of Sussex was doing wildlife photography but it is actually the Duchess of Cambridge.

“Incorrect Duchess news for you.”

His co-star Lousie then joked it was “early” to be making a “correction”.

But royal fans were quick to savage the presenter over his mistake.

One person tweeted: “Dan Walker just referred to the Duchess of Cambridge as the Duchess of Sussex.. re: wildlife photographer of the year…”

They then posted an emoji rolling its eyes.

Another was quick to point out the blunder.

They tweeted: “No Dan walker this is not the Duchess of Sussex.”

A third person chimed in by saying Meghan was still “on their minds” despite stepping down as a senior royal.

Kate delighted fans yesterday by posting a video of her announcement that she will be involved in letting the winner know they are successful.

Kensington Palace tweeted: “As Patron of the Natural History Museum, The Duchess of Cambridge will announce the winner of this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year for the competition’s first virtual awards ceremony.

“Tune in on Tuesday to see this year’s spectacular image!”

The video featured Kate speaking while wearing a smart black suit.

Her hair was styled in her trademark curls and accentuated by pearl earrings.
