The Royal Navy launched it from HMS Prince of Wales to assess it as a training aid as part of its Project Vampire experiments with crewless technology.

The Banshee can soar to 25,000ft or skim just above the waves at speeds up to 460mph. It is also hard to detect on radar, similar to incoming missiles.

Commander Rob Taylor said warships could use the drones “to keep personnel razor-sharp in countering threats from above”.
